The beach itself is black volcanic sand, and the surrounding area has a growing number of surf camps, villas, and homestays catering to the surf crowd.

Riders in Keramas use their scooters to access neighboring surf breaks - the wave at Ketewel to the west, and the coastal road south toward Lebih and Gianyar. The road north from Keramas climbs through terraced rice paddies toward Ubud, making it a beautiful scooter route. Many surfers staying at Keramas for extended sessions use their scooter as their primary transport for daily provisioning.
